mustafa yahya al-amin is a 25-year-old sudanese visual artist from the northern village of al-saqai in khartoum state. he graduated in 2023 with a bachelor’s in fine arts, focusing on graphic design and photography at sudan university of science and technology.

from a young age, mustafa showed a remarkable passion for drawing and creativity, becoming the first in his family to pursue art seriously. during university, his love for vincent van gogh earned him the nickname “van gogh” among friends and peers.

when war broke out in sudan, mustafa’s life and art were deeply affected. forced to move between regions for safety, he eventually found refuge in port sudan. there, he joined a small community of artists, organizing exhibitions and workshops to keep their creative spirit alive despite the hardships.

even in difficult times, mustafa never stopped creating—sketching with a simple pen, painting murals, and holding onto hope. when conditions improved, his family returned home, but he stayed behind to find work and support them.

mustafa’s art celebrates the vibrant faces, traditions, and colors of sudan’s diverse culture. through expressive and impressionistic styles, he seeks to capture the heart and soul of his people.

for mustafa, art is more than creation — it’s a mirror of society, a way to express emotions, preserve cultural memory, and inspire hope for peace and unity.
